Liz has a broad practice in and out of Court in public, regulatory and commercial law matters, and in Commissions of Inquiry. She presently holds an appointment as Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Violence Abuse and Neglect of Persons with a Disability, and has previously acted for health providers in Victoria's Mental Health Royal Commission, and for a major Australian Bank in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
In her regulatory practice, she has appeared leading junior counsel for the Legal Services Commissioner in Victorian Legal Services Board v Gobbo [2020] VSC 692; as well as appearing unled for ASIC in consumer credit code prosecutions (for example Make it Mine v ASIC [2015] FCA 393 and [2015] FCA 1255). Liz has appeared for the ACCC in a range of matters concerning the operation of the Australian Consumer Law (for example ACCC v TPG Internet Pty Ltd [2020] FCAFC 130 led by J Kirk SC or ACCC v STA Travel Pty Ltd [2020] FCA 723 led by P Neskovcin KC).
Her public law practice includes merits and judicial review of administrative decisions and actions (for example Lalios v O'Brien & Anor [2021] VSC 105 (unled) and a strong discrimination law practice in both VCAT and the Federal Court (for example Bickle v State of Victoria [2020] FCA 168).
Liz also has significant experience in disputes concerning legal professional privilege, public interest immunity and security for costs.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Liz was a Senior Associate in litigation at Allens, and an associate in the Victorian Court of Appeal. She has also had experience working in-house at a major Australian bank.
